Malcolm Worby Designs
is an award-winning design consultation firm that specialises in the
design of natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly
buildings. Established in 1980 as a design firm, the various different buildings designed by Malcolm Worby include custom residences varying in size up to 12,500+ sq. ft., townhouses, apartments, various hotel projects, restaurants, shops, small office buildings, building additions, renovations and natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly homes for the poor and homeless. Services offered include natural, sustainable and eco-friendly building and technology consultation, design assistance and training to firms and individuals. We also provide consultation and training to NGO's, NPO's, Charities, and Governments working with low income and homeless communities and developments around the world through our NPO, Homeless And Poor Peoples Initiative (HAPPI), which is a registered trust. For more information see www.happi-online.org Each design is creative and unique and is based on a Clients individual needs, tastes, lifestyle and budget. It can be traditional, contemporary or modern and incorporate styles from any part of the world. The finished design will be sensitive to the land and environment on which it is to be built. Various building methods, materials and technology can be recommended, designed and specified including sustainable and natural materials such as adobe (mud brick), cob, rammed earth, stone, straw bale, sandbag, lime and gypsum plaster etc. as well as more conventional brick, masonry and wood or timber frame. Energy efficient and sustainable systems such as passive and active solar heating and cooling, solar water heating, photovoltaic, geothermal energy, rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling and waterless/composting toilets are incorporated into a design whenever possible. Varying traditional & contemporary architectural styles have been designed including Adobe, African Indigenous; California Mission; Contemporary; French Provincial; Georgian; Log House; Mediterranean; Modern; Native American/Pueblo; Pole House; Santa Fe and Southwest Style; Spanish; Tropical; Tuscan. Some of which have been featured in magazine articles on both sides of the Atlantic. Clients have come from all walks of life, including the film and music industries, heads of major corporations, sports personalities, internationally acclaimed chefs, doctors, business executives, investment bankers, retirees, as well as currently providing consulting and training for NGO's working with low income family housing in South Africa and Malawi.
