Malcolm Worby Designs is an award-winning design consultation firm that specialises in the design of natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly buildings.
Established in 1980 as a design firm, Malcolm Worby Designs has designed many different types and styles of buildings including custom residences varying in size up to 1200 m2 (12,500+ sq.ft), townhouses, apartments, various hotel projects, restaurants, shops, small office buildings, building additions, renovations,as wel affordable homes for the poor and homeless.
A wide variety of architectural building styles have been designed in various parts of the world, including the USA, South Africa, UK, Mexico, and the Netherlands, some of which have been featured in magazine articles and television programmes on both sides of the Atlantic.
Clients have come from all walks of life, including the film and music industries, heads of major corporations, sports personalities, internationally acclaimed chefs, doctors, business executives, investment bankers, retirees, as well as currently providing consulting and training for NGO's working with low income family housing in South Africa and Malawi.
Since 2003 Malcolm Worby Designs has concentrated fully on its consultation services in sustainable and natural building and energy design.
Various building methods, materials, technology can be recommended, designed, and specified, including sustainable and natural materials such as adobe (mud brick), cob, rammed earth, stone, straw bale, sandbag, lime and gypsum plaster etc. as well as the more conventional types, such as brick, masonry and wood or timber frame.
Energy efficient and sustainable systems including passive and active solar heating and cooling, solar water heating, photovoltaic, geothermal energy, rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling, and waterless/composting toilets are incorporated into a design whenever possible.
